Claypotts Junction Roadworks Start Monday 12 January 2015

Work to refurbish traffic signals at Claypotts Road and Arbroath Road will take place from Monday January 12 2015.

Starting today, this will lead to several road closures over the next four weeks.

Traffic will not be able to travel from Claypotts Road onto Arbroath Road and vice versa.

An alternative route will be available for eastbound traffic approaching Scott Fyffe Roundabout via Strips of Craigie Road, A930 Dundee Road and Claypotts Road. Westbound traffic on Arbroath Road will be diverted via East Balgillo Road, Balgillo Road and Claypotts Road.

This is the second of a two phase programme in renewing the traffic signals at the linked Claypotts junctions, the first took place in October 2014.

The Council's traffic engineers reassure us that inconvenience to road users now will be worthwhile in the long run. The current traffic controls are at the end of their useful life and prone to breakdowns. The new control systems at these linked set of traffic signals will be easier to maintain and will be 'adaptive', allowing the lights to change more quickly when traffic flows are low.

Douglas Terrace to be Resurfaced Beginning Monday 21 October 2013

Residents in Douglas Terrace and Ferry folk who use this road will be pleased to hear that the Council is going to undertake resurfacing beginning on Monday 21 October 2013.

I have passed on constituents' complaints many times about the unevenness of Douglas Terrace, and the need for a comprehensive resurfacing rather than just more patching of the most obvious potholes.

The resurfacing work will, however, require a temporary closure of Douglas Terrace while the contract is in progress. Diversion routes will be in place and pedestrian access will be maintained for residents.

New Stretch of One Way Traffic Restriction in Seafield Road Broughty Ferry

Seafield Road Broughty Ferry
New Section of One Way Traffic in Seafield Road
Earlier this week Broughty Ferry's latest stretch of one way street was introduced on the southern end of Seafield Road between Grove Academy and Davidson Street. This narrow section of Seafield Road now only permits traffic driving north.

Traffic driving south down Seafield Road from Balgillo Road will find that at the cross roads with Davidson Street their path direct ahead is now "No Entry" and they need to turn right or left down Davidson Street.

Temporarily, there is also no turn available along Davidson Street heading west as this leads to Claypotts Road which is currently closed for complete resurfacing work.

As my photograph taken at twilight shows, the new short section of one way traffic begins by the back entrance to Grove Academy.

This traffic change came from recommendations made by a short life working group. This was formed to address concerns about pupil safety in anticipation of the move of Eastern Primary School to the refurbished old Grove building next door to the new Grove Academy. Chaired by the Chief Executive David Dorward, this group involved Head Teachers and members of the Parent Councils of Grove Academy and Eastern Primary Schools, senior members of staff from the Council's Education and Transportation Departments and Tayside Police and Ferry Councillors.

It is hoped that this measure will divert traffic towards the front entrance of the school on Claypotts Road and reduce the number of vehicles exiting Church Street onto Queen Street. The one way was deliberately introduced during the summer vacation so that residents could get used to this before the school runs resume on Tuesday 12 August.

Update on Bus Diversions in Broughty Ferry until Last Bus on Sunday 31 March 2013

Diversion route Strathtay Buses 73, 75, 78 and 79
Tues 19 - Sun 31 March 2013
Click on map to enlarge
I have been advised by the Council that the next phase of the major road works in Queen Street in The Ferry will begin on Tuesday morning 19 March.

In this phase, running between Fort Street and St Vincent Street, the lane driving westwards towards Dundee will be closed.

Starting on Tuesday 19 March and running until Sunday evening 31 March 2013 Strathtay Bus Services 73, 75, 78 and 79 heading towards Dundee will be diverted - see map above. Instead of their coming along Queen Street, they will be diverted up Abertay Street; Nursery Road, Forthill Road, Fort Street and thereafter back down to the stop close to the Post Office Bar and the standard route towards Dundee. There will be an additional temporary bus stop on Dalhousie Road (south side) close to the junction with Shiell Street. This is marked on the map above.

In effect there will be no buses picking up or dropping off on Monifieth Road/Queen Street that are heading towards Dundee between Abertay Street and Fort Street. This will not affect the 73, 75, 78 and 79  bus services running in the opposite direction towards Monifieth.

On Monday evening 18 March 2013 the road works on Queen Street between the junctions on Claypotts Road and Fort Street will be completed. As a result the temporary one way system on this stretch of road will no longer be needed. This means that the No5 bus that has been diverted on its return journey from Barnhill will revert to its standard route from first bus on Monday morning 19 March.

While these temporary road closures and bus diversions are inconvenient, residents I am sure accept that they are necessary so that the main electricity supply cable to central Broughty Ferry can be upgraded.

Temporary Road Closure as Strathern Road is Resurfaced

Starting on Monday 5 September for up to two weeks, there will be temporary closure of Strathern Road in The Ferry. There will be diversions in place and pedestrian access will be maintained for residents.

Drivers should expect delays on Dundee Road and Arbroath Road as traffic from Strathern Road is diverted into those routes in and out of Dundee.

Deep ruts can be clearly seen on the north edge of Strathern Road close to the bus stop. This is most probably caused by the weight of buses waiting at the stop. It's potholes like this that will be fixed when this road is resurfaced.
