BT OpenReach Do a Great Job Beyond the Call of Duty

The hazard fixed

Last week I contacted BT OpenReach about an exposed inspection cover in the pavement close to the entrance to St Mary's Episcopal Church on Queen Street - see photo below.

This area of the pavement has been fenced off but it has been reported to me that the fence had been blown or knocked over exposing the inspection hatch and the displaced cover. 

This was a potential trip hazard.

The next day from reporting this, a BT OpenReach engineer called to let me know that the inspection hatch had been reset in the pavement and all was now well.

He did however let me know that the inspection cover and box beneath the pavement belonged to Virgin Media and not BT. The confusion had been caused by the temporary protective fencing that had blown over was the property of BT and had been clearly marked as such.


So well done for BT Open Reach going above and beyond the call of duty. 

Complaint to BT OpenReach About Exposed Inspection Cover in Queen Street Pavement

This morning I contacted BT OpenReach about an exposed inspection cover in the pavement close to the entrance to St Mary's Episcopal Church on Queen Street. 

This area of the pavement has been fenced off but it has been reported to me that the fence had been blown or knocked over exposing the inspection hatch and the displaced cover. This represents a potential trip hazard.

I also reported that this 'fault', next door to the telephone exchange building has been apparently unresolved for weeks and asked that the below ground 'fault' is resolved and the pavement reinstated.

Remembrance Sunday 2013

Earlier today, I attended the Remembrance Sunday service at St Mary's Episcopal Church in Broughty Ferry.

It was a thought provoking service during which one of our congregational members read out the names recorded in the roll of honour inscribed on the chancel screen. This included the names of several members of the same family who had died in the first world war.

During the service, I was particularly remembering my maternal Grandfather, Herbert Stevens, who had been born in Maidstone and I had known had served in the First World War. I had always assumed that he had joined The Queen’s Own Buffs, The Royal Kent Regiment. While I was browsing through a box of assorted papers kept by my Mother, I discovered his Character Certificate. This confirmed he had, in fact, served in the Royal Scots Reserve until he was discharged, 'no longer fit for war' in October 1917.

The next Lunchtime Concert at St Mary's Episcopal Church in Broughty Ferry is on Saturday October 22 beginning at 1pm.

Stephen Armstrong and Avril Evans will be performing piano duets including Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite.
