Safety Issues on Fort Street Bridge Reported

Fort Street Bridge Broughty Ferry March 2016
Earlier this week I alerted the City Engineer to the holes that have appeared in the infill panels on the east side of the Fort Street bridge over the railway. Whether this is a Council or NetworkRail responsibility I think it needs to be tackled sooner rather than later.

Signs of damage and deterioration like this, either from wear and tear or vandalism need attention before they become a more expensive eyesore.

Unfortunately minor damage like this, if not attended to, becomes a target for further vandalism.

Loose Stone on Bridge Parapet is Reported to City Engineer

A large stone on the Fort Street railway bridge in Broughty Ferry has worked loose. Its an ornamental and heavy stone on the end of the bridge parapet at the junction of Fort Street, Brook Street and Erskine Lane.

This is the slab of stone to which the Fort Street sign is fixed and which can be clearly seem in the photograph. Looking closely you can see that it's slightly skewed because it can swivel round on the wall below.

I have reported this to the City Engineer because I think it is a potential hazard.

Quick Fix to Broken Panels on Fort Street Bridge

On Tuesday I noticed that there was a missing and a broken protective panel on the Fort Street bridge.   It looked as though the broken panel had been kicked in.

I was worried that the absence of these panels might make it possible for someone to climb up the parapet of the bridge. The gaps were also unsightly.

I am relieved to be notified on Thursday that an Engineer had inspected the bridge on Wednesday and has instructed Dundee Contract Services to temporarily board up the damage to the parapet. They will then do a permanent repair and paint the parapet early next year.

A job promptly well done despite the staff of the same department being busy organising winter maintenance on our roads.
