Nine Pavements in The Ferry to be Upgraded and Adopted in 2016-17

Pavement resurfacing in Broughty Ferry prior to adoption by the Council
I am pleased to announce that the Council's £0.5m programme of adopting footpaths is continuing for financial year 2016-17 and that the following pavements in The Ferry will be upgraded and then adopted at no cost to residents in these streets.

Stewart Street,
Hill Road,
Strathmore Street (63 Strathmore Street to Rosedale Crescent and Rosedale Crescent to Ellie Avenue),
Collingwood Street (south side),
Holly Road,
Lindsay Street,
Ardmore Avenue and
Kerrington Crescent (south side)

It is expected that the work will commence on these schemes on a phased basis starting approximately one month from now once the actual programming of the works has been discussed and agreed with Tayside Contracts as part of the Roads Maintenance Partnership.

I know that the residents in these streets will be particularly pleased when their pavements are brought up to standard. This will not only improve the underfoot conditions on the pavements concerned but also mean pedestrians are not tempted to walk in the road when the pavements are like a quagmire.

Upgrading of Pavements in Broughty Ferry 2015-16

Pavement in Broughty Ferry in the process of upgrading prior to adoption
The City Engineer, has recently confirmed the programme for the upgrading of unadopted footways (pavements) for the current financial year.

The £0.5million annual programme of work includes the following list of pavements in Broughty Ferry that have been prioritised for financial year 2015/16.

Work will commence on a phased basis starting in summer 2015.

  • Abertay Street - east footway only south of Hamilton Street
  • Stewart Street
  • Reres Road - south footway only Monifieth Road to Reres Park
I am sure residents who live and walk along these streets will be pleased that, at long last, their footways are being upgraded and thereafter adopted by the city council.

Pavement Upgrading in Broughty Ferry 2013

 in Campfield Road during 2013
I have just been informed by the City Engineer about the priority list of unadopted footways and list of schemes to be carried out throughout Dundee in the next financial year 2014-15 at an overall cost of £500k.

The following streets in Broughty Ferry will benefit from their footpaths being upgraded and then adopted by the Council during the April 2014 - March 2015 financial year:

  • Boyd Place
  • Hutton Place
  • Kerrington Crescent - north footway
  • Margaret Crescent - east footway only
  • Oakley Place
  • Ramsay Street
  • South Balmossie Street - west footway only
  • Stewart Street
  • Strathmore Street- east end section near the Campfield Square Shops
While the residents in these streets will no doubt be dleighted when their pavements are finally upgraded and adopted, there are still miles of pavements in Broughty Ferry to be brought up to standard in subsequent years.

Pavement Upgrading in Barnhill Progressing

Campfield Road, Brought Fer
During September, two stretches of pavement in Barnhill have been upgraded and adopted. Campfield Road and Abertay Street (west side) have been dug up and resurfaced to a standard that the Council are willing to adopt.

I am sure that residents will be relieved that after years of waiting their turn, their footways will soon be fit for the 21st century.

Footpath Upgrading in Broughty Ferry

I am delighted that the Council's programme of adopting footpaths is continuing this year and that the following pavements in The Ferry will be upgraded:

Belsize Road
Albany Road - North footway between Fairfield Road and Grove Road
Deepdale Place
Ferndale Drive
Invermark Terrace
Navarre Street

I have been informed by the City Development Department of the Council that,

'it is expected that the work will commence on these schemes on a phased basis starting approximately one month from now once the actual programming of the works has been discussed and agreed with Tayside Contracts as part of the Roads Maintenance Partnership.'

I know that the residents in these streets will be particularly pleased when their pavements are brought up to standard. This will not only improve the underfoot conditions on the pavements concerned but also mean pedestrians are not tempted to walk in the road when the pavements are like a quagmire.

Car Ditched in East Home Street as Temporary Bridge over Pavement Trench Collapses

Professor Steve Partridge got a shock when he was parking his car in his garage off East Home Street in Broughty Ferry on Wednesday evening. As he carefully drove on plastic bridging sheets over the trench dug by Tayside Contracts, the side of the trench gave way and the offside front wheel of his car became stuck in the trench. Careful jacking by a garage he called out helped to extricate the car.

He said,

While being delighted that the pavement has been adopted, the minor disruption to daily routine has now turned serious. The trench that has been dug in preparation for the installation of the kerbs means that either we risk driving over inadequate plastic ramps and our cars falling in (as happened to me this evening), or leaving our cars on the street in direct contravention to our insurance companies' instruction.

Either adequate ramps of greater length should be supplied, or the trench should be filled in until the delivery of the radius kerbs, which have clearly been holding up the work. I should also like to know from Tayside Contracts if they will compensate me for the garage callout and if the underside of my car has been damaged?”

Councillor Laurie Bidwell, who was also called to the scene said,

I think residents with garages accessed on the south side of East Home Street will be very nervous about crossing this trench. Like Mr Partridge, I think they will want to know when the pavement upgrading will be completed on their side of the street so that they can access their homes and garages easily and safely.”
