Pavement Upgrading in Barnhill Progressing
During September, two stretches of pavement in Barnhill have been upgraded and adopted. Campfield Road and Abertay Street (west side) have been dug up and resurfaced to a standard that the Council are willing to adopt.
I am sure that residents will be relieved that after years of waiting their turn, their footways will soon be fit for the 21st century.

Five Pavements in Broughty Ferry Will be Upgraded in 2013/14
The City Development Department have informed me that five pavements in Broughty Ferry have been included in the Council's 2013/14 programme of upgrading unadopted pavements.
These are:
- Abertay Street - west side
- Fairfield Road - east side (north of Strathern Road)
- Bughties Road - south side
- Campfield Road
- Albany Road - south side
I know from constituent complaints and concerns that there will be many folk who will be pleased when their pavements are upgraded and then adopted by the Council.
For example, one grand mother complained to me about the state of the west side of Abertay Street in the stretch between Camphill Road and the Campfield Square shops. This had been so uneven that it had been painful for her to walk along. Furthermore when her grand daughter was pushing her doll's pram to the shops, the large exposed gravel was a hazard for young knees and an awkward barrier for the wee pram wheels.
I am sure constituents in the relevant streets will now be counting the days until there pavements are upgraded.

Update on Bus Diversions in Broughty Ferry until Last Bus on Sunday 31 March 2013

Diversion route Strathtay Buses 73, 75, 78 and 79
Tues 19 - Sun 31 March 2013Click on map to enlarge |
In this phase, running between Fort Street and St Vincent Street, the lane driving westwards towards Dundee will be closed.
Starting on Tuesday 19 March and running until Sunday evening 31 March 2013 Strathtay Bus Services 73, 75, 78 and 79 heading towards Dundee will be diverted - see map above. Instead of their coming along Queen Street, they will be diverted up Abertay Street; Nursery Road, Forthill Road, Fort Street and thereafter back down to the stop close to the Post Office Bar and the standard route towards Dundee. There will be an additional temporary bus stop on Dalhousie Road (south side) close to the junction with Shiell Street. This is marked on the map above.
In effect there will be no buses picking up or dropping off on Monifieth Road/Queen Street that are heading towards Dundee between Abertay Street and Fort Street. This will not affect the 73, 75, 78 and 79 bus services running in the opposite direction towards Monifieth.
On Monday evening 18 March 2013 the road works on Queen Street between the junctions on Claypotts Road and Fort Street will be completed. As a result the temporary one way system on this stretch of road will no longer be needed. This means that the No5 bus that has been diverted on its return journey from Barnhill will revert to its standard route from first bus on Monday morning 19 March.
While these temporary road closures and bus diversions are inconvenient, residents I am sure accept that they are necessary so that the main electricity supply cable to central Broughty Ferry can be upgraded.

Barnhill Stretch of Pavement in Urgent Need of Resufacing
A constituent in Camphill Road has complained to me about the very poor state of a section of pavement in her home area. It is in fact stretching a point to refer to this pathway as a pavement. The pathway in question is at the beginning of Abertay Street on the western side of the road between Campfield Square shops and Camphill Road.
My constituent finds that the potholes and unevenness in the surface on this short stretch of pathway makes it impossible for her grand daughter to push her wee dolls pram round to the shops. Furthermore, the sharp exposed chunks of gravel are very hard on the feet of adults and children. They are also very punishing on the knees and hands of those, young and old, who are unsteady on their feet and fall over onto the gravel.
The picture shows both some of the holes in the path as well as the coarse and sharp exposed gravel on the surface of the path. This coarse and angular gravel is probably more exposed now that some of the finer particles has been dispersed by the wind and rain over the years.
I have written to the City Development Department to request an urgent resurfacing of this short section of pathway. It would be good if the Council could make this rough section of path into a bona fide pavement.
